Crash landing
in a Blockbuster
The Long Lost traverse the galaxy through portals. On a rescue mission to Earth — friends imprisoned in Area 51 — the gate collapsed mid-transit and dumped them into a shuttered video store. The portal closed behind them.
They watched the horror shelf end to end for intel, then shapeshifted into what they found there. Ghouls. Skeles. Zombies. Ghosts. They believe this is what the common people of Earth look like. Nobody has corrected them.
Act 02 / Security breach — Area 51
10,000 out
through the fence
Officials logged unauthorised access, bypassed mechanisms and the escape of over ten thousand prisoners. They exited through the side fence, by force, cutting a section clean out of the metal. Footprints lead into the Nevada desert. Every one of them is on file below.

A purple hue
filled the sky
Nineteen days after the breach, multiple reports came in of a purple glow at the early hours. No hard evidence. All sightings within sixty metres of each other. In the middle of it: a machine shaped like an ATM with Enter the Portal painted down the side.
Two blocks north, a clear barrel of bubbling purple liquid, hand-labelled Portal Fuel. Surveillance is 24/7. The level keeps rising. Nobody has ever been seen filling it.

Act 04 / The Lost Record Store
The gold token
was in the sleeve
Behaviour analysis flagged one pattern across every Los Angeles sighting: the Losties only stopped for 90s hip hop. Investigators walked into an empty record store. The old man behind the counter grinned, reached under it, and handed them a dusty jacket marked THE NEW DAWN — with a small gold token hidden inside.
Act 05 / Inside the pyramid ship
The portals run
on culture
The token went in. Purple light took the room. What stood on the other side was half spaceship, half pyramid — and inside it the Losties explained what no reactor on Earth could reproduce. The gate never ran on electricity. It runs on attention. Music, images, memes, belief. They call it Signal.
Too much Signal tears a gate open and collapses a dimension. So they learned to mint it into artifacts instead — objects that hold concentrated cultural energy. To outsiders they look like collectibles. Onboard, they are called Keys. They are portal fuel.
